Press Release
Citizen Marin Announces the First Annual Marin
Town Hall Meeting

Planning and Affordable Housing Challenges in Marin

Date:  March 20, 2013; 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
Location: The Al Boro / Pickleweed Community Center at 50 Canal Street, San Rafael, CA 94901

This event is free and open to the general public

Citizen Marin, a Task Force of the Social Justice Center of Marin, will be hosting an open Town Hall meeting to discuss the importance of maintaining local control of planning and affordable housing development decisions in Marin County. The evening will examine the facts and fallacies of Plan Bay Area and the Sustainable Communities Strategies currently being promoted by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC).

Bob Silvestri, author of “The Best Laid Plans: Our Planning and Affordable Housing Challenges in Marin,” will make the keynote presentation addressing the history of planning and affordable housing, the current challenges to create a truly sustainable future and the consequences of the loss of local control. The keynote will be followed by an “open mic” town hall discussion that will invite everyone to speak on issues of general concern.

About Citizen Marin
The mission of Citizen Marin (formerly known as The Marin Communities Coalition for Local Control / MCC4LC) is to restore grass-roots democracy and local control in government decision-making to achieve a sustainable future that reflects the core values of Marin communities. The group was formed in response to the recent legislation that effect local control of planning and zoning. Citizen Marin is a coalition of community organizations. It meets monthly to share information, consider policy, plan strategies, and support local efforts to preserve local control in our democratic process.
